Gallery Espace,art gallery in New Delhi along with Architecture Discipline, an architectural practice have collaborated to present the works of English architect Sir Peter Cook referred to as ‘Picasso of Architecture’. He was the founder of Archigram, the avant-garde futurist architecture group of the 1960s and was knighted in 2007 by the Queen for his services to architecture and teaching. Thirty four Sketches of Sir Peter Cook, drawn during ‘60s to 2000 are on display at Gallary Espace till September 22, 2015. His drawings are most contextual to the present milieu where conversations of constructed development are in the headlines. They would perform as inspiration and motivation for architects to design for future, more so in the wake of building ‘Smart Cities and Urban Architecture’.
The drawings consist of the ‘Trickling Towers’; of 1978, the Brisbane Expo Towers of 1983, the ‘Tower of Studios’ for Sachsenhausen in Frankfurt of 1984, the Dampstead (‘damp-ampstead’) Towers of 1993, the Finchley Road ‘Tower of Wings’ 1993, the Lantern Tower for Oslo (1996 version) and the Sao Paulo Tower of2007 among others. Nine of the conceptual drawings under the overall title of ‘Skywaft City’, from 1984-‐84, four drawings related to Frankfurt and five drawings from the much-‐published and exhibited ‘Way out West – Berlin’, of 1988 are also on display.
