A common problem that surfaces particularly during monsoon in any building – commercial, residential or factories – is the severe leakages and seepage in roofs, walls and basements of the building. Construction Accessories division of Supreme Industries Ltd has developed customised solutions specifically for the construction requirements of various segments, developed after continuous research and understanding of the needs of the new generation constructions. Company’s ‘DURA range offers low compression set filler board (DURAboard HD100) especially for expansion joints application to replace less effective bitumen board based solutions. “The ‘DURA’ range of products is manufactured from virgin raw material and we do not use any CFC/HCFC gases. At every stage of the manufacturing process, a stringent quality check methodology assures the reliability of the products,” said Ajay Mohta, General Manager, Construction Accessories Division, Supreme Industries Ltd.
A new offering in the portfolio of DURAble products of the company is the DURAmembrane- a high performance waterproofing membrane. It is a cost-effective solution for waterproofing of basements and roofs and is a versatile material capable of retaining the dryness of concrete, masonry, metal and wood structures. This waterproofing membrane is a high performance, composite polymeric membrane which is durable and lightweight and is resistant to salts, alkalis, and most acids. It is non-deteriorating, puncture resistant and is available in length upto 50m. In comparison with bitumen based products which disintegrates after contact with water, catches fungi over a period of time and starts melting during summer thus lowering its puncture resistant strength, DURAmembrane has a puncture resistance of 199 N (Test method – ASTM E154: 1999) and being polymer based doesn’t deteriorate even over a long period of time.
The product has been developed keeping in mind India’s tropical climate. Some regions have hot tropical weather while other parts experience heavy monsoons and the temperature can vary between 0 to 50°C. Thus the overlying treatment too needs to withstand the corresponding variation of 1°C to 65°C. DURAmembrane addresses these issues and can withstand temperatures ranging from 40°C to 115°C. It can thus enable construction professionals to overcome complex challenges and enhance building productivity. “The product is the result of a yearlong in-house research to provide the customers with a versatile, durable and worry-free water proofing solution. We are the first to manufacture this polymer based membrane indigenously. Though some additives are imported, all the composite films come from our divisions. Not only it is a much superior to the rigid bitumen based membranes, it is also an improvement on the earlier foam products,” says Mohta.
Any roof treatment has to fight against the assault of surface expansion and contraction due to changing temperatures and seasons. Normal water proofing treatments have a tendency to absorb moisture and conduct heat but polymer based DURAmembrane does not absorb water and has high tensile strength. The closed cell structure avoids water vapour absorption and water transmission and the cross linking of cells makes the membrane shock proof ensuring hassle-free productivity. Having been designed specifically to withstand the hot and humid Indian conditions, it presents a faster and user friendly water proofing system.
