ANJ Group is a design & build firm specializing in corporate fit-outs. It provided end-to-end solution from customized design to execution and delivery for the office of Aditya Birla’s flagship textiles brand ‘Grasim’. Ashok Kularia, Managing Director, ANJ Turnkey Projects Pvt. Ltd briefs on the design details.

The recently designed, built and delivered 13,000sqft corporate office of Aditya Birla in Mumbai is located in a prominent high-rise in Worli and has an adjoining terrace with views of the Arabian Sea and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The terrace was landscaped beautifully with artificial grass to make it appear as a sky-garden. This garden has been designed to be used as a break-out area or a recreational area, as the working staff of the organization wish to use it.

Functionality

Functionality was the key consideration in the design development of the office space. Most of the dividers used in the office are modular and adjustable partitions. These can be rearranged as per requirement to increase or decrease the space allocated to a cabin or a meeting room depending upon the number of people that it needs to accommodate.

The client lounge/collaborative space placing in the layout is such, that if more cabins need to be added in the office at a later time, the lounge space can be utilized for the future expansion without disturbing the present arrangement.

Conception

Aditya Birla’s long reputed legacy is rooted in the company traditions, yet they have kept pace with the ever changing market dynamics. They wanted the office design to reflect that philosophy.

In response, the open layout design has been primarily designated for workstation area for the working staff. The enclosed spaces comprise a client lounge to entertain guests, a board room, meeting rooms, three levels of cabins for the management depending on the hierarchy and pantry & cafeteria.

Cabins for the senior most management has been designed with woody and rustic materials like veneer, laminates and wooden textures to give an elegant look and feel. Cabin for the working management has been designed with modern wall papers.

The open office area containing a combination of cubicles and linear workstations, cafeterias, lounges, etc., is designed in a simple modular and extremely functional manner, yet it exudes a trendy and modern ambience. Glass partitions add to the feeling of openness and the selective use of graphics and films in combination with subtle yet classy wallpapers provides the entire office a very young, vibrant and dynamic finish.
