Onduline is a tough and light weight corrugated roofing and wall cladding material, manufactured from bitumen saturated recycled organic fibres under extreme heat & pressure. The sheets developed in France over 50 years ago are being widely used today, across the world from tropical areas to the cold arctic regions.
The Onduline group is the worlds’ largest manufacturer of light weight roofing systems from recycled materials and contributes significantly to the environment by recycling almost 200000MT of salvaged cellulose fibres. The company, headquartered in Bangalore with presence across the country, produces two main ranges of products:
Onduline – the corrugated sheets
Onduvilla – the corrugated tiles
The products do not contain any substance that are harmful to health or the environment and can be used in wide range of applications including, residential, commercial, light industrial and agricultural. The range of sheets and tiles is supported by variety of accessories like ridges, valleys and self-tapping screws with UV treated caps that are resistant to extreme weather conditions.
Onduline is manufactured by a patented process which involves even penetration of the bitumen asphalt. This ensures that the sheet has a high dimensional stability and prevents delamination. The colouring of the sheet is achieved through a unique pigmentation process which makes certains that the colour is stained into the sheet. Unlike painted sheets, The sheets retain their colour over a long period without fading and surface peeling.
Onduline products are waterproof, provide high insulation and are light weight (6.4kg per sheet of 1.9m2). The sheets are resistant to rust & rot, do not become brittle and prevent algae or moss formation.
The sheets and tiles are available in a range of environment sensitive colours, offer excellent colour retention and do not break during transportation and installation. Also, the products are asbestos free and require minimum maintenance.
The products are suitable in hurricane and earthquake conditions as they have been tested upto 192km/hr and exhibit excellent resistance to wind uplift. In addition, the thermal conductivity of the material is 0.098W/m.®C – a value very close to cork which is regarded as one of the best insulators.
Onduline sheets with the Sound Reduction Index of 28dB provide excellent sound reduction capability and do not produce a drumming effect when compared to metallic roofing sheets. This means, there will be no resonance under rain impact.
Besides, the sheets manufactured from organic fibres with no traces of metal are completely resistant to corrosion even in salty environments. Thus, they have a class-A resistance to salty environments.
