The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will be launching a new green rating system. The civic body had started the system of green rating for integrated habitat assessment (GRIHA) in the municipal limits to promote construction of green buildings on plots which have an area of more than 2,500 sqm. The buildings get one to five stars as per the points earned. The buildings will also get concession in premium charges which are 10 times the number of stars obtained in the rating system. One, two, three, four and five star rating buildings get five, eight, 10, 12 and 15% concession in general tax.
The new green building rating system for constructions on plot having area of less than 2,500 sqm called ‘SVA GRIHA’ was developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable energy and The Energy and Resource Institute. The green building rating system is expected to encourage the builders to construct environment friendly buildings. The builders have to apply to GRIHA- national level rating agency for getting the rating right from the design stage of the project. They need to inform the civic body too. Once, the builder who has received the green building rating system can approach the civic body to get the concession depending on the rating he has received.
