Reduction of Waste Pipe Noise

India Bulls residential project in Chennai had the electric meter room for each building on the ground floor. One of the studio flats was converted to a one bed room apartment and as a result, the waste pipe line of the first floor apartment passed through the living room of the apartment. The noise generated was in the range of 63dBA and was sure to create disturbance every time someone visited the bathroom above.

Solution: Pyrotek Noise Control assessed the situation and observed that two UPVC pipes of four inch and three inch diameter were passing through the living room. Pyrotek Soundlag 4525C acoustic pipe wrap was specified to reduce the noise levels.

The unique flexibility of this polymer-based noise barrier deflects noise back to the source to provide superior performance and allows even the smallest pipe to be lagged effectively. In addition, its acoustic foam layer separates the barrier from the source and the aluminium foil facing makes it flexible yet sturdy with lifetime surface finish, improved fire resistance and resistance to damage.

Installation: The Soundlag 4525C was fixed with the ALR tape for longitivity and sturdiness to the fixation. Finally, it was covered with a false ceiling made of gypsum boards.

Result: The noise level after the Soundlag Installation was around 48dBA. The consequent 15dBA drop resulted in barely audible sound over the ambient noise.
