Starbucks roof of coffee-fed lemongrass

Starbucks’ 500th LEED store is in the heart of Disney World in Orlando. On top of the intriguing design of the 3,900sqft coffee shop is the green roof of lemongrass plants fertilized with coffee ground compost. David Daniels, Senior Designer for Starbucks, headed this project. Other environmental features include the use of reclaimed oak, maple and other eco-friendly materials throughout the store as well as the community tables which are made from salvaged trees. All of the lighting is energy efficient LED and a green wall featurs a moss art installation by Miami-based Industrial designer and artist Paloma Teppaa. The outdoor patio looks out over Lake Buena Vista, while inside10-foot energy saving LED screens tell the story of where the coffee is sourced around the world.
