The Vastu guidelines are based upon the ‘Theory of Five Elements’ and the ‘16 Vastu’ zones. The right balance of the Earth, Space, Air, Fire and Water elements and the zonal strengths of the 16 Vastu zones are important as each element and zone is related to a certain activity. Furthermore, the colour, shape and materials associated with each zone and their relationship/s with the elements follow fixed prescriptions.
The ancient doctrine of Vastu Shastra, thoroughly explains how all buildings have a well structured energy system that emanates vibrations which affect the occupants. Each element, from the architecture, colour, shape and size of each room to the furniture and artifacts play a role in characterizing this vibration. The foundation of this system lies in the land on which the building is developed. It is the plot that determines the positivity in the building made on that plot. Therefore, it becomes essential to check the intensity of positive vibrations and this is where Vastu shastra comes into the picture. An expert vastushastri looks at all the factors –starting from the shape of the plot, the directions, location of the panch tattvas (basic five elements) to the roads connecting to it from various directions, the water and drainage around it and even the electricity poles, to gauge if the plot is Vastu-compliant.
The first and foremost thing to look for in the plot is that when the building is made and in which direction will be the entrance of that building. The entrance is believed to be the point at which the space enclosed by the building communicates with the universe. According to Vastu, there are 32 possible locations of entrance of building and each of them corresponds or is related directly with adverse or beneficial situations being faced by the inhabitants. Apart from the entrance, one must also check for location of trees, service lanes, water boring of neighbours, adjacent properties, adjoining road widths, geographical surroundings like drain or river, high low landscapes, etc.
A ‘T’ junction from the East, North and North East is highly profitable. A direct entrance from the West North- West, South South-West and East South-East are best avoided as these generate negative effects for money, health and relationships. A West Vastu zone entrance will attract capital and gains. A South East ‘T’ junction is considered good for doctors and a South West one on the West side for business consultants.
Nowadays, with scarcity of land, the plot shape does not matter as much as its intended purpose. For instance, a water source in the North is good as this zone belongs to the Water element. However, in the Southeast or South, it will have negative effect. Lands sloping towards the South (Vastu zone of fame) can facilitate successful business ventures.
One would typically wish to buy a square or rectangular plot, but an irregularly shaped plot can also be used and treated, as per requirement with Vastu solutions. If any Vastu zone is cut or missing, it can be treated to strengthen it using simple Vastu cures like application of colour strips and electric lights.Vastu shastra has not only provided guidelines for better living but also given easy alternatives as remedies to correct imbalances.
Of late, many corporate houses and multinational companies have been consulting experts in the field of colors psychology, or Vastu Shastra, to ensure that the workforce on the floor stays motivated and energetic. Some companies have even changed the colour scheme of their entire brandingbeginning from the colour of their company’s logo to all stationery, to the office building and even staff uniforms in some cases- in the hope of turning around fortunes.
If the 16 Vastu zones are of equal size and strength, the plot energy will be harmoniously balanced. It will be easy to plan a Vastu-efficient construction. Keep each element where it should be and use each zone appropriately.
